How do you inspire children to connect with nature? By letting them plant, care for, and watch something grow! That's exactly what the pupils of Sint Theresia Primary School in Mariënvelde experienced during a special activity using the SeeddeeS Sunflower Growing Kit.
The children enthusiastically got to work, creating not only a beautiful school garden, but also a meaningful experience centred around teamwork, discovery, and growth.
A complete sunflower growing kit for Primary Schools
For this special day, the pupils received a complete sunflower growing kit. Each box contained everything they needed to get started straight away: plant pots, sunflower seeds, coconut coir pellets, and an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide.
After their teacher explained the activity, the children eagerly began planting. A member of the SeeddeeS team was also present to provide support where needed and capture this special day in photos.
Planting sunflowers with children: learning by doing
From the very beginning, the children thoroughly enjoyed the activity. They added water to the coconut coir pellets, filled their pots with the expanded growing medium, and carefully planted their sunflower seeds.
Then came what was perhaps the most enjoyable part: decorating their pots. With great enthusiasm, each child personalised their own pot and proudly wrote their name on it. This not only made every pot unique, but also allowed each child to recognise their own sunflower later on.
While planting sunflowers with children, we witnessed exactly what makes projects like this so valuable: joy, curiosity, and pride. Many of the children excitedly talked about taking their sunflower home later to grow in their garden, or giving it to their mum and dad—or even their grandparents.
Learning and growing together
One of the most heartwarming moments of the day was seeing the older pupils helping the younger ones. They patiently explained each step and assisted them with planting, creating a wonderful atmosphere of cooperation and kindness.
Discovering together, learning together, and growing together—that is exactly what SeeddeeS stands for.
From the classroom to the school garden
A few weeks later, the sunflowers had grown strong enough to be transplanted into the school garden. This was another exciting milestone for the children.
Because every child had written their name on their decorated pot, they could easily identify which sunflower was theirs. Today, the sunflowers bloom beautifully alongside colourful wildflowers in the school garden, where they continue to be lovingly cared for by the pupils.
Watching a tiny seed grow into a magnificent flower gives children a firsthand understanding of the wonders of nature.
Why gardening with children matters
At SeeddeeS, we believe that gardening with children is about much more than simply growing plants.
It teaches patience, responsibility, and respect for nature. Children experience the satisfaction of nurturing something themselves and discover, step by step, how a tiny seed transforms into a beautiful sunflower.
The result is not only a flourishing garden, but also lasting memories and valuable life lessons.
SeeddeeS: The first step towards growing your own
This project perfectly reflects what SeeddeeS is all about.
We help people of all ages plant, grow, and flourish—step by step, always with a smile. At SeeddeeS, everything starts with one small gesture.
Planting is about more than putting a seed into the soil. It marks the beginning of care, attention, and a deeper connection with nature. Even if you've never grown anything before, we make it easy to get started. Planting means having the confidence to give it a try, and SeeddeeS is here to help every step of the way.
