Grow your bell pepper easily in the SeeddeeS® egg carton. You can easily sow the red bell pepper, also known as the “Yolo Wonder” variety, indoors from February onwards. The seeds only need to be lightly covered, as they require light to germinate. If they are covered too deeply, there is a chance they will not germinate properly.
Keep the seeds well moist and place them in a warm spot, as bell peppers love warmth — ideally between 22 and 25°C. When the seedlings are large enough, carefully transplant them into larger pots. Germination time is on average between 15 and 21 days. Once there is no longer a risk of frost outdoors, you can plant them out in the ground, preferably in a greenhouse or conservatory. Bell pepper is a healthy vegetable that can be used in many ways in the kitchen. Think of stuffed peppers, salads and delicious oven dishes. How fun is it to prepare a tasty meal using your own home-grown peppers!

Fermenting red bell peppers
Tip from SeeddeeS®: Make fermented red bell peppers. They have a delicious flavor and can be used in many ways, such as a spread for baguette or as a base for a tapenade.
What do you need to ferment red bell peppers?
- 20 grams of salt
- 1 kg of bell peppers
- 1 liter preserving jar (glass jar)
First, wash the harvested bell peppers thoroughly and cut them into pieces. Once everything is chopped, mix the salt well through the peppers. Then knead the peppers so that the released liquid is collected and used to fill the jar. Add everything to the jar and, if necessary, add some brine so the peppers are completely submerged to prevent mold. Seal the jar well and store it at room temperature. When it tastes good, you can place it in the refrigerator to slow down the fermentation process.

Step 1
Place all coco tablets on a saucer first.
Step 2
Add water, pouring it over the coco tablets so that they can fully absorb the water. Give them 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 3
When the coco is loose enough, place it back into the pot.
Step 4
Make a small hole and then place the seed (1 or 2) in it.
Step 5
Cover it with a small amount of coco material, using a thin layer to ensure the seed can germinate.
Step 6
Place a saucer under the pots; this is easier for watering. Do not give too much water to prevent the seed from moulding.
Step 7
When the seedlings are large enough (this will be between 15 and 21 days), they can be transplanted into a larger pot. Be careful when transplanting; the small plants are still very fragile.
Step 8
From May onwards, the plants can be placed outside in a sheltered sunny spot, preferably in the greenhouse. Continue watering and use, for example, wooden bamboo sticks to allow the plant to grow strong.
Step 9
Feast away and enjoy the delicious red SeeddeeS® pepper. There are plenty of delicious recipes to be found!
